Blake Lively knows how to do out-of-this-world fashion. Last August, the actress returned to the red carpet in a sequinned Prabal Gurung dress, pink and silver and cut-out in a way that was more than a little extraterrestrial; just this year in February, she decided that her shade was royal purple, and executed the hue in a Sergio Hudson pantsuit, matching blazer draped like a superhero cape on the shoulders. And, of course, we have to mention that gown of gowns, which will always occupy the mind’s eye: the gold and red Versace creation of 2018 Met Gala fame, inspired by the baroque and the Catholic imagination.

Today, her fashion resumé acquired another notch, this time for the premiere of husband Ryan Reynold’s latest film, The Adam Project. The new sci-fi drama, slated for international release later this month, also stars powerhouses Zoe Saldana and Jennifer Garner. But off-screen and on the red carpet, it was Lively who shone, paying homage to the film through dress. Her rainbow Atelier Versace gown, a piece from the Italian house’s haute couture spring/summer ’19 collection, called to mind the colours of space nebulae. References to the cosmic were heightened by metallic rose-gold accents at the bodice, and the silhouette of the dress itself, pleated and draped like a Grecian goddess’s chiton.

To complete the look? Strappy silver heels and chunky bangles on the right wrist, echoing the shape of Lively’s silver disc earrings.

Classic, with a colourful twist—in other words, it’s what Lively does best. If she ever went to space, we wouldn’t be surprised if she packed Versace in her carry-on. For now though, we’re glad she’s teaching Earth a thing or two about divine dressing.
